Adequate knee space and proper working heights are essential for prolonged use of instruments. The layout must facilitate clear access to utilities and emergency equipment.

2. Durability and Chemical Resistance

Materials selection is paramount. Worksurfaces, often the most exposed component, must be non-porous and highly resistant to the specific chemicals, solvents, and heat sources used in the lab (e.g., epoxy resin or phenolic resin). Cabinets and casework should be constructed from robust materials, such as heavy-gauge steel or moisture-resistant laminate, capable of withstanding heavy loads and frequent cleaning.
